Introduction to Nanjing Medical University

Nanjing Medical University is an institution of higher learning with a glorious history and excellent traditions. As early as 1941, it became one of the first institutions in China to admit graduate students.

It was also one of the first medical colleges in China to offer six-year medical education programs, and one of the first to be authorized to confer doctoral and master’s degrees in China, as well. NMU is one of the key universities sponsored by Jiangsu Province.

About NMU

Nanjing Medical University (NMU) was founded in 1934 as Jiangsu Provincial College of Health Policy and Management. It was renamed Nanjing Medical College in 1957. It adopted its current name Nanjing Medical University in 1993.

Today the university is a modern medical education institution with a complete range of disciplines, a strong faculty, and first class research capacities. It has seven first-level discipline doctoral programs, eleven first-level discipline master’s programs, and six postdoctoral research centers. Its degree programs cover seven disciplines – medicine, science, technology, management, law, education, and literature.

The university has three state-level key disciplines and one key discipline for state-level cultivation. It also has one academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and one state key laboratory.

The University consists of twenty-two schools and one independent school (Kangda School). It has twenty-three affiliated hospitals and more than fifty teaching hospitals in Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Shandong etc.

In the past eight decades, the university has cultivated a great number of medical and health care talents and made an enduring contribution to the health cause of humankind.

In recent years, Nanjing Medical University has extensively carried out exchange activities and has actively developed multi-model relationships and cooperation with other colleges and universities.

It has established cooperation and academic exchange with medical colleges and institutions in the U.S.A., Canada, Australia, Sweden, Japan, Taiwan Province, and Hong Kong SAR, etc.;and it now has more than 650 students from Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, Taiwan Province and other countries around the world.

In the new century, NMU aims to become one of the highest grade medical universities, with distinctive features and international fame; and it will strive to make even more outstanding contributions in medical education, research, service, and culture.

Campus

The university has two campuses, Wutai and Jiangning. Wutai Campus, located at the south foot of Wutai Hill in Gulou District, Nanjing, has a land area of eight hectares and is a center of clinical teaching and research.

Jiangning Campus, located in the university town in Jiangning, Nanjing, has a land area of eighty-seven hectares and is a center of teaching and research. With more than 1,070, 000 printed medical resources, more than 1,500,000 e-resources and over 6,000 journals in a variety of languages, the university library boasts a vast collection of resources that makes it a center of medical literature in Jiangsu province. NMU is also responsible for publishing 11 academic journals.

Accommodation at Nanjing Medical University

NMU has two campuses, Wutai and Jiangning. Wutai Campus, located at the south foot of Wutai Hill in Gulou District. Jiangning Campus is located in the university town in Jiangning. Both campuses have apartments for international students.

MBBS (BACHELOR’S)

The MBBS at Nanjing Medical University (NMU) is a six year program for international students taught in English.

About the Program

Nanjing Medical University enrolls international undergraduates on MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) program, with English as medium of teaching. The study duration of MBBS program is 6 years (including 1-year internship). Graduates who reach the qualification of graduation will be awarded “Diploma Certification” and graduates who reach the qualification of the Degree Rule will be awarded the Bachelor Degree of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS.

The qualified applicant should be over 18 year-old and under 25 year-old with good physical and mental health, and outstanding school grades, which is equivalent to foreign citizen received Chinese senior high school diploma.

The tuition fees are RMB 34,000 per year. The total for the 6 year program is 204,000 RMB.
