About Guiyang

Guiyang is the capital of Guizhou province, China. While not the most spectacular of Chinese cities, it has much to offer as an introduction to the history, culture and natural splendor of Guizhou and China’s southwest. Moreover, it is drastically cheaper than the more touristed and developed provinces.

It makes an excellent base for exploring mountains, caves, rivers, and minority cultures (including traditional Han Chinese culture lost in many areas) of the province.

As a capital of a poor western province, Guiyang’s sudden development into China’s ‘Big Data Valley’ has brought astonishing change, with Foxconn and Tencent already drawn to the city. As a growing city, Guiyang is also showing some success in drawing in young talent.

Housing is cheap, at around 2,000 yuan (£227) a month for a central apartment, while comparatively fresher air and the lush surrounding countryside also have appeal
