INTRODUCTION TO CHINA EUROPE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL (CEIBS)

China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), a joint-venture for management education, was co-founded by the Chinese government and European Union (EU) in 1994, with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the EFMD serving as its executive partners.

About CEIBS

As China’s only business school to originate from government-level collaboration, CEIBS is committed to educating responsible leaders versed in “China Depth, Global Breadth” in line with its motto of “Conscientiousness, Innovation and Excellence”.

Leaders from the Chinese central government, the EU and the Shanghai Municipality have respectively lauded CEIBS as a cradle of excellent executives, a role model of EU-China cooperation, and a calling card for Shanghai.

CEIBS offers China’s largest full-time, English-taught MBA programme, the world’s largest EMBA programme, stand-alone Global EMBA, as well as a part-time Finance MBA (FMBA) programme, a range of Executive Education programmes and an intensive Ph.D. programme.

Renowned for its academic rigour, CEIBS is the first business school on the Chinese mainland to have been accredited by both EQUIS and AACSB and the only business school in Asia to have simultaneously made it to the Financial Times’ top 30 list of MBA, EMBA and Executive Education programmes.

Shanghai Campus

CEIBS’ main Shanghai campus was designed by world-renowned architects Pei Cobb Freed and Partners; and the school’s architectural style combines Western architecture with the subtlety of Chinese beauty and grace.

Phases I and II use Suzhou tiles to band and lattice the school’s windows, creating a unique identity for the 8-hectare site in Pudong.

Completed between 1994 and 2008, the first two phases are connected with an arcade walkway that encloses the main garden, often referred to as the bamboo forest.

The school’s world-class facilities are impressive, comfortable, and technologically advanced.

Wi-Fi is available in virtually all the rooms from the cafeteria to the 750-seat conference hall, providing students with an easily accessible high-speed connection to the school’s information network and databases.

A glass pyramid surrounded by CEIBS’ signature black-granite-floor indoor lake is the focal point of CEIBS Shanghai Campus Phase III, which was put into use in 2013.

The third phase is linked to the others by a corridor that wends along the lake’s surface. The main entrance is via the East Gate.

Located on 38,000+ square metres, this phase is a continuation of the Pei Cobb Freed & Partners’ (PCF) architectural vision seen in Phases I & II.

Phase III consists of lecture halls in Academic Centre IV, a faculty building, two student residences, a commons building and a conference hall.

Buildings were designed to maximise the shape and specific characteristics of the land available.

The end result is an optimised open space with a heavy emphasis on transparency, reflection and light.

Beijing Campus

The China Europe International Business School opened its Beijing Campus on April 24, 2010, a gleaming new facility located on 3.3 hectares within Beijing’s Zhongguangcun Software Park, alongside the research centres of IBM, Oracle, Neusoft and more than 200 other leading technology players.

Designed by renowned Spanish architectural firm IDOM, the impressive campus is a fitting facility to host CEIBS EMBA programme and Executive Education courses held in China’s capital city. Each year, the CEIBS Beijing Campus graduates over 260 EMBA students and nearly 3,000 Executive Education participants.

The campus is also a central meeting point for CEIBS alumni as Beijing is home to CEIBS’ second-largest alumni chapter (after Shanghai) with 1,800 members.

The construction of CEIBS Beijing Campus is in compliance with the long-term strategic development plan of the China Europe International Business School.

The campus plays an important role in the following aspects: facilitating the school’s contact and communication with China’s central government, accelerating CEIBS’ development into an important think tank, extending high-end business management education in North China, training senior management, strengthening the school’s research capability in management theories, practices and methodologies, and increasing the school’s competitiveness and influence.

The Beijing Campus brings CEIBS a high-profile presence in China’s nexus of politics, academics and research, but also assists the school in maintaining a rigorous pace of expansion.

The new facility doubles the school’s total number of classroom seats. CEIBS already operates the largest Executive MBA Programme in the world, with nearly 800 students enrolling per year.

The Beijing campus focuses on its EMBA and Executive Education programmes while CEIBS’ Shanghai Campus also offers the MBA and FMBA Programmes.

Deep Roots in Beijing

CEIBS’ history in Beijing dates back even earlier than the school’s official launch in 1994, in Shanghai.

The school’s predecessor, the China-EC Management Institute, operated in Beijing from 1984 to 1994, making CEIBS the first and longest running China-based business school in operation. Even after relocating to Shanghai in 1994, CEIBS classes resumed in Beijing as early as 1996.

In addition to hosting the EMBA and Executive Education programmes in Beijing, the CEIBS Beijing campus has become a hub for the school’s alumni clubs, business forums, VIP speeches and class reunions.

In particular, the campus is the venue for a number of high-level annual events hosted by CEIBS.
